Mary teaches piano to children and adults from her lovely home studio in Oakleigh, and tailors each lesson to suit the individual student. She has developed a teaching approach that is patient, gentle and very creative, to make the lessons enjoyable and more engaging. There are games and puzzles to enhance the learning process.

The journey of learning a musical instrument need not be a tedious slog; rather, the process of becoming a musician can be an exciting adventure. Mary wants the student's outcome to be greater self-confidence, improvement in technique and skills, greater knowledge and understanding, and, importantly, an excitement for playing a musical instrument - ie. the magic that comes with playing the piano!

The student will learn to sight-read, to develop technique and a sensitive aural awareness of sound, to interpret music, to compose and improvise, and more. Aural training and scales are part of the curriculum, but are taught in a way that can be fun!

Mary supports students through the AMEB syllabus if required, and also just for fun. Even if students are undertaking exams, Mary insists that students expand beyond the exam repertoire, with extra-curricular pieces, making for a well-rounded musician, an authentic musician.

She teaches face-to-face with one student at a time, or online if you are feeling unwell. In fact, if the student is feeling unwell, please simply let Mary know with a quick courtesy call or message, and no fee is charged for that cancelled lesson.

If youre a parent dropping a student off for a lesson, there is a big family restaurant directly across the road where you can enjoy a cuppa, or you can simply wait on Marys front verandah.

Lessons are priced at $35 per half hour payable upon attendance. There is a sibling discount of $5 if students are back-to-back.

Enquiries are welcome, and a free five minute meet-and-greet can be provided prior to commencement of lessons if required.
